Previously sold at Sotheby’s 15th November 1994.
An example of this very rare teapot can be found in the collection of the V&A, however this example is decorated with polychrome colours not just in red. The V&A have dated their teapot c1768. I do not support this early date due to the decoration used on both pots, however the acorn finial is found at this early date. Personally I feel that the early date is incorrect, but it could be that they were decorated later, with only the underglaze blue cell border, spout and handle painted at time of manufacture. .
