Very Rare Blue Tulip Painter “Lemon Flower” Pattern Coffee Cup c1775-80

A Very rare Lowestoft porcelain coffee cup, hand painted in underglaze blue with a floral pattern by the So called Tulip Painter c1775-80.

This pattern is usually found painted in colour, with this cup being an exact copy only in underglaze blue. My feeling is this was a special order for a customer who liked the pattern and either couldn’t afford the more expensive coloured version or just preferred blue and white.

The cup measures 8.2cm in diameter including the handle and stands 5.6cm tall.

It displays very well but has a chip to the inside of the rim and a 3mm hairline to the rim. No other damage or any restoration.

Unmarked.
