An 18th century Lowestoft porcelain scalloped rimed plate, hand painted in underglaze cobalt blue with the Fence Rock and Peony pattern c1770-75.
The plate measures 22.5cm in diameter.
It is in excellent display condition without chips or restoration. There is a stress crack running from the rim and stilt marks to it.
Marked to the foot with a workman’s 5 mark attributed to Robert Allen.
Lowestoft plates are very rare. This is the first scalloped rim plate I have seen. There are no examples of this shape plate to be found in the Victoria and Albert or Norwich castle Museums collections.
