A superb and very rare Worcester creamboat of hexagonal shape c1753-54.

With an angular handle, the body with leafy stalks flanking shell-bordered panels painted in pale yellow, pale blue, green and iron red with on one side a bird perched on a flowering branch trying to catch an insect in flight, the reverse with a similar bird apparently stalking another hovering insect at ground level. Below the lip is a flower spay in another moulded cartouche. The inside rim is further painted with trailing leaves and flower spays with three small insects in flight. The base of the creamboat is hexagonal in section.

See Bonhams catalogue of the Billy Pain Collection November 2003 Page 45 Lot 107 for a similar creamboat where the spout is moulded with a geranium leaf. This example does not have the moulded geranium leaf which is actually most unusual since most creamers of this shape and period, in both polychrome and blue and white decoration, do have the moulded leaf to the spout.

The creamboat stands 5.2cm tall and measures 7.3cm wide and 10.6cm long including the handle.

Condition is excellent with just small, professionally restored rim chips (top side in image), no cracks or other damage.

A classic and rare example of early Worcester porcelain at its finest.

Unmarked.
