A very rare Longton Hall porcelain octagonal slop bowl, hand painted with flowers by the Trembly Rose painter c1754-60.
The bowl measures 11.3cm in diameter and stands 5.4cm tall.
Excellent condition without restoration. There are two minor chips to the foot and minor scratches to the interior from use
Unmarked.
Please see Nicholas Brankin-Frisby, There is still life at Longton Hall, fig 50-60 for examples of this pattern. Nicholas doesn’t have an octagonal shape recorded in his collection. I know of an octagonal coffee cup and a saucer in separate private collections.
A similar round bowl to Fig 55, in the above book was sold at Bonhams.
The coffee cup, currently housed in a private collection in Norfolk was sold at Law Fine art in 2003.
