A rare Liverpool Philip Christian coffee pot and cover, hand decorated with a Mandarin pattern c1770-75.
The coffee pot measures 18.5cm in diameter including the handle and spout, and stands 26.5cm tall with the cover in place.
Displays very well but has kiln dirt in the glaze. There is a graze to the tip of the spout and a short hairline to the bottom of the spout. The cover has been broken into two and re stuck and has a small chip to it’s rim.
Unmarked.
Olliver collection.
The V&A has a Teapot, Saucer and Creamboat decorated with this pattern, which is directly copied from a Chinese original. The V&A also have a Philip Christian coffee pot with the same handle and spout moulding but decorated with a different Mandarin pattern.
