A Liverpool black printed coffee cup with strap handle decorated with the “Courting Shepherdess” pattern. The porcelain manufactured at the factory of Richard Chaffers and the print added by John Sadler.
There is some conjecture as to whether Sadler actually worked for the the Liverpool factories or merely purchased the pieces and added the prints in his own workshop.
See HILLIS Chapter 14 P.523 for a discussion on Sadler.
The cup stands 5.9 cm tall and measures 8.0 cm across including handle.
Condition is very good with no no chips or cracks however the print is somewhat faint possibly due to wear of the copper plate used.
