Worcester Classical Ruins Pattern Teabowl and Saucer c1780-85

£185.00

Out of stock

A good Worcester teabowl and saucer printed in underglaze blue with the Classical Ruins pattern c1780-85.
See Branyan, French & Sandon 11.B.19 for a discussion on this series of patterns

Both tea bowl and saucer are marked to the base with so-called disguised numeral marks. Wares with these particular marks were originally attributed to the Caughley factory but excavations at the Worcester factory showed that these pieces were in fact all made at Worcester from about 1780. See Godden’s Blue and White book P.399 for a discussion on these marks.

The saucer measures 12.2 cm diameter and the teabowl measures 7.4 cm across and stands 4.6 cm tall.

Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or restoration.
