An 18th century Lowestoft porcelain Spittoon with double scroll handle and transfer printed with a copy of Worcester’s Rose centred sprays pattern c1775-80.
It measures 13.2cm in diameter across the top, and stands 11.5cm tall.
It is in good display condition without chips or restoration. There is a 4.5 cm hairline running horizontally right from the top handle join (probably caused in the firing).
Marked to the base with an open crescent mark.
Spittoons are rare items. Godden writes “These rare Lowestoft examples normally bear a printed Worcester type printed design. Some where equipped with a handle, but this the exception rather than the rule. There is an example without a handle can be found in the Norwich castle museum’s collection.
