An 18th century Worcester porcelain fluted coffee cup, hand decorated with the very rare Red Crab pattern c1758-62. This pattern 1st appeared on Worcester porcelain c1754 and can also be found with an armorial.
The cup measures 8cm in diameter including the handle and stands 5.5cm tall.
It displays very well. However, there is a 1mm chip to the rim with a 1cm hairline running from it and a 2nd 1mm chip to the right of this. There is no restoration.
The Zorensky collection contained two items decorated with this pattern. A blind Earl dish sold in part II lot 50 for £1793 including premium and a teacup and saucer (with the armorial) part I lot 63 for £4673 including premium.
The early bowl mentioned above and discussed by John Sandon in his book “the dictionary of Worcester porcelain”, was sold by steppes hill farm antiques for £6,500 Rare Worcester Red Crab Pattern Bowl c1754
