An extremely rare early Worcester porcelain ink pot hand painted in underglaze blue with The Plantation pattern c1753.
The waisted form has a wide central recess surrounded by six circular quill holes and the base is unglazed
The pot measures 12cm across the top, 13cm across the base and stands 5.2cm tall
Condition is excellent with just some tiny glaze blemishes to the top inner rim.
Unmarked.
See BFS 1.D.11 for a discussion on this pattern. This ink pot has both the main pattern and the rarely seen reverse pattern as mentioned. There are also two well painted sailing boats between the main patterns.
Only a few of these extremely rare ink pots have survived with two known that only have five quill holes
