A very rare Limehouse cup of quatrelobed form with irregular spiral ribbing and moulded floral and vine pattern picked out in blue c1746-48.
The cup measures 9.8cm in diameter including the handle and stands 6.1cm tall.
Excellent condition except for a tiny chip to the thumb rest of the handle.
Unmarked.
An example in plain white can be found in the collection of the V&A Museum.
An example sold at Bonhams part of the late Geoffrey Godden collection.
Two Examples Sold at Christies. With the auction description containing interesting information about this early factory.
I am personally aware of 4 of these rare and early cups. Two in private collections, one in the collection of Rosie Sharp (ex Billie Pain collection) and finally this example. Bernard Watney estimated that there are only 200 or so items of Limehouse in existence, total. Making this cup a rare survivor from this early British factory.
