Unusual Seth Pennington Sparrow Beak Jug with Floral Painted Body and Printed Border c 1785

£195.00

Availability: In stock

A most unusual 18th century porcelain sparrow beak jug from the Liverpool factory of Seth Pennington c1785.

The combination of underglaze blue printing and hand painted polychrome enamels is an unusual feature sometimes found on Liverpool porcelain. This example has a printed underglaze blue border with well painted floral decoration to the main body.

See Maurice Hillis Liverpool porcelain Page 385 No.9.20 for a high Chelsea ewer with a similar border.

The jug stands 8.7 cm tall.

Condition is excellent with no chips and just an original firing crack to the side of the beak.
