Rare Reinforced Rim Temple Pattern Saucer c1785

£75.00

Out of stock

An 18th century Caughley saucer transfer printed with the Temple pattern c1785.

Whilst this pattern is deemed to be common on Caughley porcelain there are two unusual features of this example. Firstly this saucer has a reinforced rim which is thought to be unique to this pattern and secondly the base is hand painted with two circular lines, one inside the foot rim and one outside. The usual Caughley mark of a letter S for Salopian is hand painted rather than printed. The combination of transfer printing and hand painting on a single piece of porcelain is rarely seen on English porcelain.

See the Caughley Society pattern book page 180 E.43 for further details of this pattern

The saucer measures 12.6cm in diameter

Condition is excellent with just slight rubbing to the gilded rim. No chips, cracks or restoration.
