A Lowestoft porcelain coffee cup, hand painted in underglaze blue and overglaze colours and gilt, with the Worcester Queen Charlotte pattern, C1770-90.
This cup was probably made as a replacement for a Worcester cup. It has been made to look like a Worcester cup, even down to the shape of the handle. The other possibility is it was a special order, made for a client who wanted a Worcester service but Lowestoft could make it cheaper. This cup however isn’t Worcester, therefor is rare.
The cup measures 7.8cm (3 1/16″) in diameter and stands 5.7cm (2 7/16″) high.
It is in excellent condition with no damage or restoration. There is some slight staining to the foot, which is common on Lowestoft. There is also ware to the onglaze decoration from use.
Unmarked, but guaranteed to be Lowestoft.
