A rare and early Lowestoft porcelain moulded saucer dish, hand decorated in underglaze blue with a geometric border and simple flower spray to the centre c1761-63.
The dish measures 19.7cm in diameter.
Two fine hairline cracks running from the rim, the longest being 38mm. No other damage or any restoration.
Unmarked.
From the Collection of Robert Woodthorpe-Browne.
Examples of this moulded pattern and the unusual painted border are very rare. John Howell illustrates a teabowl and saucer in his paper, Early Lowestoft, ECC Transactions Vol 11. A unglazed sherd from a teabowl with this moulding was found on the Lowestoft factory site. This can be found in Lowestoft Porcelain in Norwich Castle Museum Vol.1 pg 209.
