Peony Pattern Teabowl and Saucer c1770-75

An 18th century first period Worcester porcelain teabowl and saucer, hand painted with the Peony pattern c1770-75.

The decoration comprises a large Peony spray surrounded by three small floral sprigs and a beautifully detailed painted insect in flight.

The border on this pattern is always the same. (see BF&S book P.230 1.E.7 for a bowl in the same pattern and also Goss P.73 No.128 for a saucer)

The same pattern is also to found on Plymouth porcelain of similar date and Caughley of a later date.

The teabowl measures 7.5cm across and the saucer is 12cm in diameter.

Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or restoration.
