John Pennington Helmet Jug with a Biting Snake Handle c1775 -80

£265.00

Availability: In stock

An 18th century Liverpool porcelain helmet shaped cream jug with a biting snake handle and a pedestal foot c.1775-80.

Probably made in the factory of John Pennington this jug is hand painted in bright polychrome enamels with the Scolding Woman pattern.

Unusually the inner border border is painted with a broad blue line. One would normally expect a line and dot border painted in red enamel.

The cream jug stands 8.5 cm tall and measures 11.5 cm across including the handle

Display condition is very good however the handle appears to be a replacement.

Unmarked.
