A Lowestoft porcelain Hughes moulded teabowl and saucer, C1764-66. Hand painted in underglaze blue with landscapes within panels. This example is an early example as the moulding is very crisp. As the moulds got worn the moulding became less crisp.
The Teabowl measures 7.7cm in diameter and stands 4.4cm high. It is in good display condition, bt has a triangular section broken from the rim (looks like a crack in the images).
The Saucer measures 12.2cm (5 1/16″) in diameter. It is in excellent condition with no damage wear or restoration.
Both parts are marked with an 8 to the foot rim. This is a workman’s mark.
This pattern is discussed on page 177 of British blue and white porcelain saucers by Steven Goss. Steven lists this pattern as uncommon.
