Flower Sprays and Insects Pattern Coffee Cup c1760-65

A Worcester porcelain coffee cup with grooved loop handle c1760-65.

Hand decorated in fine polychrome enamels with a central, large pink peony in a spray of smaller flowers and leaves. To the reverse are two insects in flight and further flower sprays. The inner rim has a simple red and gilt border to complete the decoration.

The cup measures 8.1cm in diameter including handle and stands 6.3cm tall.

Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or restoration.

The free style quality of painting on this cup is typical of the period between 1758 and 1765. Later wares became slightly mechanical by nature thus loosing the free form quality of decoration.
