Fable Pattern Square Dessert Dish c1775

£245.00

Availability: In stock

An 18th century Worcester porcelain fable-decorated dessert dish of square shape c1775.

The dish is hand-painted with a group of four animals of slightly surreal form and colouring. The group comprises an Elephant, a cow, a porcupine and a lion with full mane in a country setting with birds in flight. Whilst the scene is reminiscent of J.H. O’Neils famous fable decoration to be found on Worcester porcelain pre-1770 this decoration is possibly by an unknown artist, maybe a student or follower of O’Neil himself.

See the Bonhams Zorensky Sale Part 111 February 2006 Lot 111 for a heart shaped dish with similar style decoration and border,
Also see Bamfords Sale of the Robert and Celia Morris Collection Lot 160 for this dish.

The dish measures 24.0 cm square and stands 4.0 cm deep.

Display condition is excellent after being professionally restored.
