Early Long Eliza Pattern Octagonal Coffee Cup c1752-53

£260.00

Out of stock

A rare Worcester octagonal cup C.1753 with a scroll handle with a curled thumb rest, painted with alternating panels of oriental flowering plants and colourful insects. This cup also has the addition of a Long Eliza type figure in flowing robes and a vase of flowers. The vase is one of the so-called “precious objects” relating back to Chinese porcelain of the late 17th / early 18th century which was the inspiration of so much Worcester porcelain in the early years of the factories existence.
It is believed that these cups were sold originally without saucers since very few saucers of this shape have ever been found.

The cup measures 8.7cm in diameter including the handle and stands 5.5cm tall.

The cup displays very well. There is a filled chip on the inside, from this a curved v section has been broken and re stuck. There are also two hairlines (left of handle) running from the rim to the foot. The decoration is bright with little wear to the decoration. A wonderful cup, for the lover or rare over perfect.

Unmarked.
