An interesting 18th century transfer printed blue and white coffee cup with Chinese landscape scene and complex cell border c.1785
The pattern is very similar to a known New Hall pattern and the the base has a curious printed mark which was deemed by Bernard Watney to be characteristic of New Hall.
See Godden’s book on English Blue and White Porcelain P.391 for a discussion on this group of porcelains.
The cup stands 6.4 cm tall and measures 8.5 cm across including the grooved loop handle.
There is damage to the cup with several hairlines and a re glued section to the rim however the uncertain nature of the origin of this piece outweighs the damage and provides a conundrum to enjoy within the fascinating subject of 18th century English porcelain.
