A very rare Lowestoft soft paste porcelain Milk jug, hand painted in underglaze blue with a tall pagoda pattern c1775.
The jug measures 14.5cm in height and 11.7cm in diameter including the handle.
Godden writes “Jugs over 3 1/2 inches (8.9cm) and under 6 1/2 inches (16.5cm) may be regarded as Milk jugs and are usually of sparrow beak form. The jugs are normally fitted with covers but are seldom found with them today. These large milk jugs are usually found with post 1770 services and examples are rare today”.
This jug is in excellent condition without damage or restoration.
Pictured with a coffee cup to show size.
