Two Crab Pattern Coffee Cup c1758-62

An 18th century Worcester porcelain fluted coffee cup, hand decorated with the very rare Red Crab pattern c1758-62. This pattern 1st appeared on Worcester porcelain c1754 and can also be found with an armorial.

The cup measures 8cm in diameter including the handle and stands 5.5cm tall.

It displays very well with professionally restored chip and hairline to the rim.

The Zorensky collection contained two items decorated with this pattern. A blind Earl dish sold in part II lot 50 for £1793 including premium and a teacup and saucer (with the armorial) part I lot 63 for £4673 including premium.

The early bowl mentioned above and discussed by John Sandon in his book “the dictionary of Worcester porcelain”, was sold by steppes hill farm antiques for £6,500 Red Crab Bowl c1754
